| My name is Ada Baran. I am a 14 year old girl belonging to a family of 5 and living in the blue mountains region. I go to Winmalee high school, my electives being drama, visual arts and visual design with plans of following a creative path to the future. I also study Polish at The Polish School of Sydney every Saturday to develop my language skills which allows me to communicate with family, connect with my culture as well as opens up opportunities such as this competition.
In class one day we discussed Thaddeus Kosciuszko and the Kosciuszko Bicentenary International Competition, I happened to be drawing in my book at the time and so when my teacher asked who was good at art all my classmates pointed at me after seeing my little drawings. The teacher wrote my name down and by then it was too late to back out. My first idea was to draw Mt. Kosciuszko, I had been there when I was younger and knew it's beauty, but after doing some research and thinking I came to the realisation that Mt. Kosciuszko wasn't founded by Thaddeus Kosciuszko.
I then got the idea to draw the Kosciuszko mound instead which was created in honour of Kosciuszko just like this competition and is also located in Poland, Kosciuszko's place of birth and one of the countries he fought for, therefore being a much better representation of him.
