OPEN INNER WEST 2019. The Polish Graduates Association of NSW is organising a Polish
Cultural Open Day that honours Nina Skoroszewska OAM. This will be a fun day for young
and old, with Polish art & craft displays, face painting, a youth art competition, Polish
folkloric dancing, music, and Polish food.
FOR FAMILIES AND CHILDREN – 12 to 2.00 pm – Main Auditorium
*Face painting with Ula Kosowska and making handmade Polish ‘wycinanki’ (paper cut outs)
with PaniPolka Emilia Cooper.
*Arts and craft displays of selected works by Polish Australian artists - photos by Yaja
Hadrys, ceramics by artist Ella Szpindler, paintings by Natalia Rudnicki, Suzi Krawczyk’s new
style wycinanki creations & the latest youth ‘zines’ by local Loretta Ryan Krawczyk.
*Polish food by Sto Lat restaurant and the Polish delicatessen at the Polish Club.
FORMAL PROGRAM – 2.30 to 3.30 pm – Main Auditorium
The formal program includes a photographic exhibition and presentations honouring the life
of Nina Skoroszewska, who was a Polish Australian social worker, multicultural activist and a
founder of the Polish Welfare Bureau in the 1970s (now PAWA Community Care). Folk dancing and music featuring local Polish folkloric dance ensemble Syrenka and a
musical performance by renowned pianist Gregory Kinda and singer Marta Nowicka. Speakers - A number of speakers will talk about Nina Skoroszewska, her work in the past and
link to the present role of PAWA Community Care, and the value of recording Sydney’s
Polish Australian community and family histories. Winners of our Youth Art competition will
also be announced.
