Tam w Szwajcarów wolnej ziemi żył Kościuszko długie lata
I obracał tęskne oczy, gdzie rodzinna jego chata.

Z Maciejowic w ranach wzięty ciężką przetrwał on niewolę,
Nim wygnaniec poszedł we świat na tułactwo, na niedolę.
A gdy poczuł, że śmierć blisko ujął w ręce miecz swój dumny
I rzekł „Walczył w świętej sprawie, włóżcie ze mną go do trumny!”
I na północ spojrzał rzewnie, twarz mu blaskiem się zajęła,
I konając wyrzekł z mocą: „Jeszcze Polska nie zginęła!”

There among the Swiss free people lived Kosciuszko exiled, banned
And he turned his eyes with longing to his dear beloved Poland.
Wounded at Maciejowice, made a prisoner of war,
A hard bondage he did suffer, then cruel exile he forbore.
When he felt grim death approaching, seizing his pround sword, he cried:
“It fought with me in cause holy, bury it close to my side!”
To the North he gazed with yearning, on his face a brightness crossed,
With his last strength he called out then: “Poland has not yet been lost!”.
