"Heniek. A Polish Boy’s Coming of Age in India During World War II"is the true story of world-renowned Australian transformer designer Henry Bonshek (Heniek). Born in the eastern Kresy region of Poland in the 1920s, Heniek is one of over a million innocent Poles, many of whom are women and children, deported to Siberia after Hitler’s invasion of Poland and Stalin’s seizure of Poland’s eastern territory. Remarkably Heniek survives sure starvation and disease and finds his way to Uzbekistan. There he joins Polish orphans destined for India. Never before told, HENIEK is an incredibly inspiring, heart-wrenching story of endurance and renewal—of finding peace in an era dominated by totalitarian forces. Written by Henry’s eldest daughter, Queensland artist and writer Anna Bonshek.

In my humble opinion this is not just a story of [Heniek] and his family but a lesson in history. The amount of research which [has been] put in this work is tremendous. — Francis J. Rutyna, Chairman, Polish Archives and Museum in Queensland.
