White Eagle Club - what's new?
Barbara Alwast
We would like to share some good news about our club. Recently we have installed 4 new reverse cycle air-conditioners in the large hall, one in the room to the right as you enter the club and one in the conference room upstairs. As a result we now have air-conditioning in the whole club. Some of you probably noticed that the whole back wall is being covered by colour bond and the roof has been repaired, so there should not be any leakage of water anywhere.

In this financial year we spent $33,000 on repairs and renovations in the club. Net income from Multicultural Festival was $12,000, Members donations amounted to $5,000 and we are very grateful to everyone for their generous contributions. The remaining $16,000 is income from the bar, hall hire, etc. We feel that all this is quite an achievement and would like to let you know how the club is being utilised.

- Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for the whole year, the large hall is hired for various dance schools and exercise classes (Zumba),
- First and second Saturdays each month, these dance schools hire the hall for their dances.
- Other Saturdays, Fridays and Sundays are being used for parties, celebrations, functions, meetings, etc.
- We have an excellent restaurant 'Kopernik', which is becoming more & more popular not only with Polish people, but people from all other nationalities.

As to various activities in our club for people of Polish descent, there are many during the year.
- we organise concerts, celebrations, theatre performances, etc.
- 'Krasnoludki', parents with small children meet regularly every two weeks for their activities
- Polish Seniors Club members meet once a month
- continental butcher from Sydney comes every second Saturday
- Polonet, computer group meet every week in the conference room
- Polish Ex-Servicemen Association meet regularly in our club
- Kronika Poloni (polish Chronicle) group, Council of Polish organisations in the ACT and Council of Polish Organisations in Australia hold their meetings on our premises.

All this indicates that the Polish/Australian White Eagle Club is flourishing and this is all thanks to our hard working committee and support from our members. There is still a lot of work to be done in renovating our club, but we are making good progress. If anyone has some good ideas how to improve our club or is able to help in some way, your input will be greatly appreciated. After all this is Your Club.

Once again, thank you for your support and hope to see you in White Eagle Club soon.
