Dear Mr Gromann,
Thank you for your letter of 16th May regarding the use of the phrase" Polish concentration camp in a news report on the Today Show on Friday 13th May.
I would like to assure you that no offence was intended, it was never our intention to imply the connection between Polish people and the evils of the Nazi concentration camps. We accept that the use of the term was careless and incorrect, and apologize for any distress the mistake has caused.
I have passed your letter, and the Australian Press Council guideline you attached, to the team responsible for putting together the Today Show's news bulletins, and we have taken steps to ensure that producers are aware of the correct terminology, and the offence caused when we get it wrong.
Yours sincerely Alex Thornton Senior Supervising Producer TODAY athornton@nine.com.au
