| Strzelecki was an early Polish explorer and surveyor.
His name is given to one of the most desolate regions of the Australian continent, north to Cooper’s Creek where in ancient times thousands of Aborigines lived in a paradise surrounded by desert and where many early English explorers of the continent perished but where true bushmen achieved remarkable feats. Strzelecki's Monument in Jindabyne is more than important to us. Our hiking club has been established since 2009, using Strzelecki and his statue as inspiration. In 2010 The "Strzelecki" name was officially adopted by our Club as the Club's patron.

The Strzelecki Monument holds pride-of-place in the park between the town and the lake in picturesque Jindabyne, NSW.
It carries huge significance for all Australians, who recognize and revere the achievements of the Great Strzelecki... the explorer who conquered and named
Mt Kosciuszko in March 1840. Just to gaze upon that statue,
to follow that outstretched arm along
an imaginary line towards Australia's tallest peak, reminds us all of what can be truly achieved when we aim for our highest ideals, and dream to our fullest potential.
