The Feast of Boże Ciało
Henry Igliński (text & photos)

The feast of Boze Cialo was celebrated on Sunday 10th June 2012 at the Polish War Memorial Chapel at Marayong. Society of Christ Fathers Antoni Dudek, Tadeusz Przybylak, Marian Szeptak and Jozef Kolodziej celebrated the Mass which commenced at 2.00 pm. The church was packed with hundreds of local parishioners and visitors from all around Sydney including representatives of Scouting and all of Sydney’s Polish folk dancing groups.

Mass at 2.00pm was followed by a procession to four well adorned altars prepared by the Ashfield, Cabramatta, Liverpool-Minto and Marayong church groups. With rain threatening, the large crowd followed the procession to the altars with Ks Przybylak, Ks Kolodziej and Ks Szeptak carrying the monstrance. At each altar, prayers and hymns were sung with the support of the Polish choir Chor Tecza. Ks Dudek completed the ceremony with prayers at the fourth altar at the entrance to the church. The rain began as the procession was ending.

The procession participants took shelter in the Hall which was the venue for a concert as the final act of the day’s celebration. Sydney’s four Polish folk dancing groups, Kujawy, Lajkonik, Podhale and Syrenka performed in the Hall. A total of 60 dancers, of which over half were junior dancers, performed the Polonaise, Krakowiak and other dances. A special feature was the performance of the junior group of Syrenka which had 20 young dancers.

The concert ended at 5.00 pm with the darkness and rain setting in on a wonderful day’s celebration of the feast of Boze Cialo.

The following photo collages give a brief overview of the celebration.
