Stefan Strugarek was born in January 31,1918 in the village of Wilkowyja, near Poznan. Stefan and his wife Wenancja, sailed on the ship Toscana arriving in Sydney in 1958. Six weeks later their first born child of three, was born at St George's hospital at Kogarah. Five years later Stefan and Wenancja's family included two more children.
Stefan worked as a town planner in Opole, then as an architect with the NSW Department of Public Works, designing schools in Bourke and Meadowbank.
Stefan always encouraged his children's education in Polish culture, and together with Wenancja, took his children to Macierz Polska Szkola in Ashfield every Saturday.
In 1976, Stefan took his three children to visit Poland for the first time, on the way visiting Athens, Rome, Venice, and Vienna. That journey was an adventure, today not forgotten by his children.
Stefan's death occurred at Marayong on Tuesday night at 10pm, June 12th 2012.
We are grateful for the warm care given by the sisters and nurses at Marayong, who prolonged Stefan's life in comfort and in a beautiful place. Thank you to the staff at Marayong.
