Sunday 24th June 2012. As you opened the doors to the Marayong hall, you found yourself looking at a special place - an enchanted forest. If you looked closely, you saw Robin Hood and his strange friends - a big yellow banana, a hotdog, and King Arthur. The hall was filled with many characters from pretty princesses, fairies, pirates and transformers, to Little Red Riding Hoods, smurfs and Batman. Children were having their faces painted and colouring-in lovely pictures at various tables.
If you wanted to, you could go up to the enchanted forest on the stage and have photos taken by senior Lajkonik dancer/photographer/trainee pilot, Geoff. Pani Urszula, Lajkonik’s teacher, dressed as a nice Baba Jaga (witch), assisted. Another Baba Jaga from Kielce, could be spotted flying through the enchanted forest.
Whilst the guests watched with smiling faces, Lajkonik junior and senior groups danced in front of the stage. Children sat forming the front row, watching and clapping, totally fascinated by the colour, the costumes, and by the Lajkonik boys doing cartwheels, somersaults and all sorts of funny steps as part of their Rzeszow dances. The junior group performed one of their favourite dances, the Goralski, with boys doing tricks with sticks, and the girls shouting “Wyzej chlopcy!”
Performances were followed by a fashion parade of all participants - big and small, with everyone receiving a prize for dressing-up.
After a healthy lunch of sandwiches, cut fruit and some cakes, Robin Hood, and his friends led the children in some fun games. King Arthur took over the microphone and led “Pass the parcel”, “limbo” and “musical chairs”. It was so much fun and more prizes were claimed.
The fun-filled afternoon whizzed by. Before we blinked, it was time to say goodbye with lolly bags, a smile and an invitation to “Come and have fun with us again!”.
Parents are reminded that they can contact Pani Urszula for individual photos in the enchanted forest.
