The Sydney Consort invites for a concert of forgotten Italian music. In the programme: Concertos, Sinfonia and a Sonata by the Sammartini brothers.
The Sammartini Brothers - Giuseppe Baldassare, composer of many chamber works is best known for his Concerto for recorder and strings, which will be performed this evening and Giovanni Battista, predecessor of Mozart, occupies an important place in the genesis of the symphony. Their music is very tuneful and Italianate, clearly influenced by Vivaldi, and played an important role in the history of 18th-century instrumental music.

The Sydney Consort with considerable pleasure would like to introduce a fantastic, grasping the audience with full attention a virtuoso cellist, who recently arrived in Sydney from Holland. Teije Hylkema is a Dutch cellist who plays on both modern, and period instruments in a historically informed baroque style. The ensemble is very fortunate to perform with this sublime and very innovative musician.
