Spectacular Opening Ceremony for
SPECIAL OLYMPICS 2013 ASIA PACIFIC GAMES

A multi-faceted, two hour spectacular of music, dance, theatre, lights and fireworks will form the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics 2013 Asia Pacific Games on Sunday 1 December 2013 at Hunter Stadium, Newcastle. Some of Australia's best known musical performers will take part in the Opening Ceremony including:
 Human Nature
 Anthony Callea - ARIA Award winning singer with fastest selling single by an Australian artist,
 Iva Davies - legend of Australian music and Icehouse front man,
 Marcia Hines - Queen of Pop, ARIA Hall of Fame singer, actress, TV personality and local Newcastle resident,
 The McClymonts - ARIA and Country Music Award winning trio,
 Silvie Paladino - internationally recognised Australian singer and star of the West End;
 Doug Parkinson - Australian rock legend born and bred in Newcastle,
 Darren Percival - runner up The Voice 2012, fresh from a sell-out tour,
 Marina Prior - Australia's leading lady of musical theatre.

The Opening Ceremony will also include:
 Performers from the Newcastle-Hunter region,
 Special Olympics dancers,
 Volunteers,
 A parade of the 2,500 Special Olympics athletes from the 32 nations taking part in the Games,
 Lighting of the Games cauldron as the traditional Flame of Hope carried by law enforcement officers reaches the Stadium,
 An official opening by the Governor General of Australia.

The gala ceremony will open the first ever Special Olympics 2013 Asia Pacific Games for athletes with an intellectual disability. The Games will take place 30 November to 7 December 2013 with 2,500 athletes and officials from 32 nations in the Asia Pacific region taking part in nine sports across seven venues in the Newcastle-Hunter region. Come along and support the athletes as they seek to demonstrate what can be achieved when given an opportunity.

Family tickets for two adults and two children are just $44:00, while premium reserved seats range from just $30:00 to $69:00, making the event an affordable and value-packed night of entertainment. Newcastle born John Foreman has been appointed Creative Director of the Opening Ceremony and is excited to be at the helm of a major event in his home town.

Special Olympics is a world-wide organisation that provides sports training and competition for people with an intellectual disability. These Games will give participating athletes from 32 countries in Asia Pacific the opportunity to experience joy, demonstrate courage and participate in the sharing of gifts.
