“Poland – God's Playground or the Lucky Country?”
a lecture by Professor Norman Davies
The Embassy of the Republic of Poland has pleasure in inviting you to the lecture of a world-famous British historian Professor Norman Davies - “Poland – God`s Playground or the Lucky Country?”. The lecture will be held in the reception hall of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, 7 Turrana Street, Yarralumla on Wednesday 2nd April at 11.00 am and will be followed by a discussion and a reception.

Wykład Profesora Normana Daviesa zatytułowany “Poland –God’s playground or the Lucky Country ?”odbędzie się w Konsulacie RP w sobotę 29 marca o godzinie 18.00

Professor Norman Davies is a bestselling author of “Europe: A History”, “The Isles: A History” and “Rising '44. The Battle for Warsaw”. He is also the author of the definitive history of Poland “God`s Playground”, and several books on European history. Born in Bolton, Lancashire in 1939, Professor Davies is a graduate of Magdalen College, Oxford and the University of Sussex. He obtained his Ph.D. at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. He is a Supernumerary Fellow at Wolfson College, Oxford and is a Fellow of the British Academy, Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and Professor Emeritus of London University. Professor Davies was honored and decorated with several highest Polish order of merits and distinctions: Order of the White Eagle, Order of Polonia Restituta, Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland, Medal Polonia Mater Nostra Est, Gold Medal “Gloria Artis” and Honorary Distinction „Bene Merito”. Professor Davies arrived in Australia at the invitation of the Australian Institute of Polish Affairs (AIPA) which is an independent, voluntary, non-political organization founded in 1991 in Melbourne, headed currently by Professor Jan Pakulski. AIPA seeks to develop stronger and more diversified ties between Australia and Poland by inviting and organizing meetings with, expert speakers, both Polish and Australian. The Institute publicizes events relevant to Polish-Australian relations, and arranges lectures as well as commemorations and celebrations of important anniversaries.
