| Podhale Folklore Ensemble this year proudly celebrates its 5th year since formation. It represents Sydney’s youngest Polish song and dance ensemble.
The Ensemble has been ably managed by Daniel and Basia Gadd, who are fully qualified as dance teachers. Through the hard work, dedication and generosity of the committee, the parents and the members themselves in fundraising as well as sponsors, and in particular the patronage of the Polish Association of Cabramatta, the Ensemble has acquired many authentic costumes from Poland to enrich their extensive repertoire.

This year of celebration kicked off as usual with Podhale’s annual Picnic at Thirroul beach on 2nd February 2014. A barbecue of tasty sausages accompanied by various salads followed by various games and a soccer game with members and parents; culminating in a group photo around a table, bearing cupcakes formed in the shape of the number five as well as plates of refreshing fruit. A selection of popular polish melodies was played by Mr Kollat on accordion, resulting in a cheerful sing-along, including of course 'Sto lat'. We have always been blessed with wonderful sunny weather and the day is always remembered happily by all that are able to attend.
On Sunday, 2nd March 2014, Podhale held a five year Anniversary Luncheon with performances by the Ensemble and a debut of their new costumes and dances from the region of Lowicz. The program commenced with a Polonez whereby members of the audience, including Ks. Krzysztof Chwalek and Krystyna Cyron, President of the Polish Association of Cabramatta, were invited to partner various Podhale Members. All danced with enthusiasm and created a warm atmosphere of enjoyment.
A tasty warm lunch was distributed by Podhale members, to the over 100 supporters of the Ensemble present on this occasion.
The artistic program was soon commenced. One of the greatest pleasures of the audience, was watching an enthusiastic junior group performing dances from Opoczno region and also performing dances from the Zywiec mountain regions of Poland.
The senior group impressed everyone with their brand new vibrantly colourful Lowicz costumes. The first dance was Kujawiak-Oberek by the senior girls. The final performance being a Suite of songs and dances from the Lowicz region. It was so well received that an encore was requested by enthusiastic applause.
Raffle tickets were sold in conjunction with serving dessert and Podhale members distributed to everyone a beautifully packaged gift of three iced ginger biscuits with a tag attached expressing words of gratitude and appreciation from Podhale for everyone’s regular support.
During the official part of the event, speeches were made and flowers of appreciation were presented to Krystyna Cyron as President of the Polish Association, also to Basia Gadd in acknowledgement of her work as choreographer and teacher. Then photos taken with the Ensemble in front of the celebratory cake. One final photo was taken with past and present members of Podhale together with their parents including Ks. Krzysztof Chwalek and Krystyna Cyron.
Podhale Ensemble looks forward to its next formal Five year celebration which will be a Ball in November. Details will be announced nearer the event.
Meanwhile, Podhale will be performing at the upcoming Mothers Day Luncheon to be held by the Polish Association of Cabramatta at the White Eagle Hall on Sunday, 18th May 2014.
