Boże Ciało - Body of Christ at Marayong
Henry Igliński - text & photos
The annual Body of Christ Mass and Procession took place at Marayong on Sunday 22 June 2014. It was a beautiful sunny winter’s day and over 300 people attended. The Mass was celebrated by Fr Tadeusz Przybylak and co-celebrated by Fathers Henryk Zasiura, Antoni Dudek, Jozef Kolodziej, Krzysztof Chwalek. The homily was given by Ks. Tadeusz Przybylak. Music to the Mass was provided by Maja Kedziora. Four altars were constructed for the procession. Each altar was prepared by the respective church committees of Ashfield, Bankstown, Cabramatta and Marayong.

Standard bearers representing various Polish organisational groups led the procession. They were followed by altar servers, scouts and girl guides, and the dancing groups. The carrying of the monstrance came next followed by the large, devout and prayerful congregation. The priests shared the carrying of the monstrance and the leading of prayers. The Folklore ensembles also shared carrying the monstrance canopy. It was wonderful to see so many young people participating.

After the Mass and procession an artistic program of folk dancing and singing was held in the Hall where the Marayong Church committee provided tasty meals. The artistic program involved performances by Sydney’s four Polish folkloric dancing groups, namely, Kujawy, Lajkonik, Podhale and Syrenka.

The artistic program performed was as follows:
1. Polonez-Mazur by Kujawy Senior Group
2. Lubelska Poleczka by Podhale Junior Group
3. Tance Gorali Jurgowskich by Syrenka Junior Group
4. Warszawska Poleczka by Lajkonik Junior Group
5. Tance Gorlickie by Podhale Senior Group
6. Warszawska Polka by Syrenka Middle Group
7. Tance Gorali Zywieckich by Lajkonik Senior Group

The participating dance groups were very thankful to the appreciative audience and for their generous donations which were equally shared amongst the groups. The concert finished around 5 pm as the sun set on a wonderful day of prayer, procession and folk dancing.
