Many significant events have occurred over the years to which Kujawy Sydney have had the honour and privilege to attend and perform at. The main four that come to mind over the years and have been verified by people are: Pope John Paul II visit to Sydney & Melbourne -- The Unveiling of the Strzelecki Statue --- The Blessing and Strzelecki Festival ---The Welcoming of President Wałęsa.
Pope John Paul II visit to Sydney & Melbourne Australia. Kujawy were also present in welcoming Pope John Paul II in Melbourne and Sydney during his first monumental visit to Australia in 1986. The crowds were ecstatic at being able to welcome the Pope but it had a special significance for all Polish people. Here was one of their own who helped in the liberation of Poland come half way across the world to see them.
The unveiling of the Strzelecki Statue on 14 November 1988.The older group from Kujawy Sydney travelled to Jindabyne to partake of this monumental unveiling. The contingent of dancers was quite large with 3 dances being performed in total. Góralski, Trojak and Gęś Wodą.
Many of the dancers who performed at this unveiling remember that the weather was a little cloudy but that it didn't damper their spirits. There was a mass held at the base of the statue with important dignitaries present. Lunch was provided by the community in Jindabyne at the Bowling Club.
I have to mention a few people who performed at the time - Roman Bartosiak, Jan Bartosiak, Elizabeth Donati (nee Chawa), Dana Douglas(nee Prociuk). The reason for mentioning these people is that their children are now current members of Kujawy Sydney.
The Blessing and Strzelecki Festival held in February 1990.Once again Kujawy travelled to Jindabyne for the blessing of the plaque of the Strzelecki statue. Kujawy.
Kujawy danced Sieradz and Kujawiak at the time. Once again a special mass was held and dignitaries were present.
The welcoming of President Lech Wałęsa 3 November 2011.
Kujawy Sydney were also asked to participate in the welcoming of President Lech Wałęsa, when he came to Australia at Government House in Sydney. Five of our beautiful girls - Mirosława Moran (nee Żurawski), Elizabeth Żurawski (nee Cyganiuk), Natalia Lech, Charlene Lech and Gabrysia Ziomek, were a beautiful backdrop in their Krakowski costumes.
Beside Lech Wałęsa they also had the privilege to meet with Premier Bob Carr, Former Prime Minister Gough Whitlam and Dr Karl Kruszelnicki.
