The comments by Mateusz Kijowski came after he admitted last week that public donations to his movement - a focal point of opposition to Poland's governing Law and Justice (PiS) party - were used to pay his company for IT services. The KOD Temporary Regional Council has urged to Kijowski to stop speaking to the media and in public, private broadcaster TVN reported. The council appealed for “two months of peace”and said KOD was in a “crisis situation,” TVN added. But public broadcaster TVP reported that Kijowski appeared to have no intention of heeding the appeal.
At elections of KOD regional authorities in Śląsk, southern Poland, Kijowski said: “I would like to say I’m very sorry for exposing us all to a lot of criticism.”
Kijowski last week denied wrongdoing. He said in a statement: “Perhaps there was a lack of experience and prudence of my part, but I assure you that there is no dishonesty involved in this matter.”
Senior politicians from the governing Law and Justice party have slammed Kijowski while the opposition has said that the finances of social movements should be transparent.
