For our friends in Melbourne, acclaimed pianist and Chopin interpreter Alan Kogosowski is holding a day devoted to Chopin in the beautiful Beleura Estate. Beginning with the film ‘A Song to Remember’, about Chopin’s passionate relationship with the female novelist George Sand, lunch follows, and then a recital of Chopin’s music by Alan. A treat for the senses. For more information visit: www.beleura.org.au
Closer to home in Canberra, we are pleased to support our friends in the Japanese Embassy and at Llewellyn Hall in helping to promote the young Japanese pianist Yu Kosuge. With her superlative technique, sensitivity of touch and profound understanding of the music she plays, Yu has become one of the world’s most noted young pianists. Join Yu as she plays Bach, Beethoven, Liszt, Takemitsu, and Wagner in a recital presented by Llewellyn Hall and the Embassy of Japan in Australia. For more information visit: www.anu.edu.au/events
Next we have a rather special announcement. Our good friend Michael Moran, an Australian based in Poland, has completed his biography about his famous but nearly forgotten Uncle, the pianist Edward Cahill (1885-1975). Born in outback Queensland, he took the salons of royalty and aristocracy by storm in Europe in the early 20th Century. Some of Uncle Eddie’s recordings of Chopin from the early 20th remain, and are considered of interest by the National Institute of Fryderyk Chopin in Poland.
[b]And lastly, of course, we are busy with our preparations for the 3rd edition of the Australian International Chopin Piano Competition in Canberra in September. For details and updates, please visit the website
