On the 4th of November, 2016 the President of Poland, the honourable Andrzej Duda, announced that my father Jacek Klaś would receive two medals for his political activism. These two medals were in addition to the Medal of „Niezłomnym w Słowie” (List of Recipients) he received from the anti-communist activist group in the state of Małopolska in 2010. The first of these two medals my father received from President Duda was the Cross of Freedom and Solidarity (Krzyż Wolności i Solidarności).
He was given this medal for his contribution to the fight towards the independence and sovereignty of Poland, and his contribution towards human rights during the Communist regime of Poland. This medal was awarded to my father on the 11th of November, 2016 by the Polish Ambassador Paweł Milewski at the Polish Marine Shrine in Essendon, Victoria, Australia.
The second medal my father received from President Duda was the Officers Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (Krzyż Oficerski Order Odrodzenia Polski). My father was a recipient of this medal for his outstanding contribution to strengthening the democratic system within Poland. This medal was awarded on the 28th of July, 2017 by the Consul General Regina Jurkowska in a small ceremony at the Polish Community Council of Victoria.
I’d like to personally congratulate my father, Jacek Klaś, for receiving these prestigious honours as a result of his dedicated service to the Polish nation. I am both proud and pleased that his dedication has been acknowledged.
