Sponsorship Appeal
John Molski

Once again the Church Committee of Our Lady of Częstochowa, Queen of Poland, Catholic Church at Marayong, takes great pleasure inviting all ambitious businesses to sponsor “Lucky Door” prizes for our Family St. Sylvester’s (New Year’s) Eve Ball for 2017. Each of our prizes is usually valued between $100 to $150 and is one of the key attractions of this event. Perhaps you may have a product of similar value, gift vouchers, or even a cheque that would enable us to fund prizes in your business’ name. We must extend our sponsorship base to widen the opportunity of many more Polish businesses to share in our success. This year we pray to arouse greater interest in developing a more permanent relationship and form a formal brigade of sponsors to provide certainty in expanding our mission to serve the spiritual needs of our Polish faithful in the future. Our Polish Marayong serves the spiritual and moral needs of our community superbly! We can guarantee that our faithful participating in our traditional Catholic Polish liturgies with the right attitude are free of spiritual maladies that are the prime cause of chaos in the lives of others.

Polish Marayong was constructed through the sacrifices of impoverished Polish survivors of the horrors of WW2 that destroyed their childhood and robbed them of the opportunity of a formal education. These were ordinary working class folk who toiled for penury but still had the nous to build a home for their family. Building Marayong was the perfect way our Pioneers could thank God and His Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church for their robust faith necessary to survive and vanquish the unprecedented Godless barbaric terror they were forced to confront during World War 2. Furthermore they wanted to leave future Polonian generations an outstandingly beneficial asset where the next generation could practically strengthen their own faith in the traditional civilised Polish way: so crucial a weapon to cope with whatever difficulties life may throw in their path.

If the Polish community wanted to construct such architecturally acclaimed Church, Presbytery and Hall today, it would cost them in excess of $10,000,000. Such is the miracle of the ability of your forefathers.

Of course, we will appropriately acknowledge the prize sponsors such that the promotional value to your business will significantly exceed the value of your sponsored prize. We have the expertise to leverage your donation and considerably amplify its ability to promote good in the world. But the more important benefit for businesses and people with financial means joining our proposed sponsorship brigade is the emotional satisfaction of being spiritually associated and continuing the vision of our Golden generation of pioneers. That generation with the superhuman courage to resist the Nazi scourge at the Warsaw uprising; that stood up to communist tyranny at Katyn; and that built Polish Marayong. Well may they proudly smile at you with approval from heaven! Surely there is no other greater honour for you!

Last year Polish Marayong celebrated its 50th Anniversary. The need for success of our sponsorship drive is underscored by the ever increasing financial outlays usually expected to maintain buildings on their way to their centenary.

Our Church Committee is extremely proud that we operate at $0 administrative expenses to provide credence to our charitable integrity. We are very cognisant we are a Catholic Church and not a business. We waste nothing and use all our scarce resources optimally. We use volunteers wherever possible. Their services save us at least $50,000pa for building maintenance, canteen services, lawn mowing and gardening, property management, accounting and financial services, and church cleaning. We raise funds only to cover necessary expenditure where we can’t find volunteers or sponsorship.

Thus we need to pay property insurances, major maintenance and property improvements, light, power and gas, water rates, waste collection, liturgical and priests’ motor vehicle running costs. In recent years such costs have ranged to between $75,000pa and $95,000 pa contingent upon the extent of maintenance required. For example, we are currently undertaking major drainage to prevent water from damaging the Church foundations costing $37,000. So this year’s costs will run to over $100,000. So far we have been able to cope with maintenance costing tens of thousands of dollars. However in the approaching future, we will have to provide for maintenance costs and capital improvements costing hundreds of thousands of dollars, as would be expected for buildings of such important heritage.

To date, these cost burdens have been mainly borne narrowly by our Polish working class volunteers and pensioners in the Blacktown municipality. Yet the vision of our pioneers was for Marayong to serve people of Polish heritage in the catchment area of the whole of greater Sydney and its neighbouring regions if not the whole of NSW.

Marayong will only remain Polish as long as people of Polish heritage make consistent use of its proven ability to provide them with a significant advantage in their lives. Let there be no doubt that other communities are looking askance with envy at the potential of our Polish Marayong. The present educated and wealthy generation does not have to build anything. It merely has to maintain what has been gifted to them by their forefathers. Indeed it would reflect great shame upon this generation if they negligently betrayed the vision of our courageous Polish pioneers and cowardly surrendered it to the benefit of others.
