| President Duda met the Polish community on Saturday in Chicago, which has the largest population of Poles outside of Poland.During the event at the US city’s Millennium Park, Duda said: "Poles have lived in Chicago almost from the very beginning of the city's existence. Thank you for keeping Poland in your hearts." He added: “On the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence, I thank you... on behalf of 38 million Poles."
Poland this year marks the centenary of returning to the map of Europe as an independent country in 1918 after more than 120 years of partitions and foreign rule.
Duda arrived in the United States last week. On Thursday he opened a debate at the United Nations Security Council in New York.Poland joined the council in January for a two-year stint as a temporary member.
Throughout May, Poland holds the month-long rotating presidency of the council.
Duda was to leave Chicago for Warsaw later on Sunday.
