Please note that the closing date of both competitions has been extended again this time to the 1st August 2020 due to consequences of the continuing Covid-19 pandemic.
An innovative, unique experiment is being announced. Kosciuszko Heritage Inc. is providing the opportunity for students of Tumbarumba High School to participate in two competitions, both in celebration of the 180th anniversary of the naming Mt Kosciuszko and exploration of Gippsland by Paul Edmund Strzelecki. The key details are:
Competition One. Essay Theme Kindness Matters! Kindness is Powerful! Do you agree? Why? To what extent is this true for Paul Edmund Strzelecki and/or Thaddeus Kosciuszko?
Essay Length: Six Hundred words or less.
Student Resources. For the first part, students provide their own thoughts on life and their own experiences of receiving and/or giving kindness. For the second part, a huge pool of articles, essays, audio & video clips can be accessed at Puls Polonii website www.pulspolonii.com, select the Tab "English Puls" and klick on "Student Resources". This will lead to two Tabs: STRZELECKI and KOSCIUSZKO. Rather than read or look at everything it is expected that students will be able to Fossick for and find a few gems that they believe will well support their thoughts.
Key Dates Opening: 30th January 2020
Closing: Entries are to be forwarded by email to School competition coordinator, Krystyna IKIER krystyna.ikier@det.nsw.edu.au no later than 5 pm on Friday 17th July, 2020.
Prizes Awards: for Juniors and Seniors. Identical prize money donated by Kosciuszko Heritage Inc for both categories: Gold $300, Silver $200, Bronze $100.
Evaluation: Entries will be evaluated by a jury consisting of Felix Molski, Ernestyna Skurjat- Kozek and Krystyna Ikier.
Presentations Awards gala is on TBA at Tumbarumba High School.

Competition Two. Graphic Art - Topic Mt Kosciuszko in My Mind's Eye. Close your eyes and what picture comes into your mind when you think of Mt Kosciuszko. Take your time. Don’t forget details. Is it a picture of: a landscape, flora & fauna,climbers, historical climbing and naming, or
the poem “The Man from Snowy River”, tourism, scenic views,
hiking, skiing, indigenous, winter storm?
Hint: If your imagination needs stimulation, Google Mt Kosciuszko. Click the “image” button. What do you like best of what you see? Once you have formed the picture in your mind, make a painting of what you see and enter it into the competition.
