PULS POLONII. In 2015 we met Robyn Counsell in the Australian Museum during an exhibition featuring P.E. Strzelecki. And unexpectedly, 6 years after, we receive an email from her with a fantastic story attached.
We first met at the Australian Museum's Fifty Greatest Explorers launch in 2015. Later we discussed the Sowinski family history and together rehomed my grandfather William Sowinski's piano.Since then I found myself again touching on my Polish heritage and have been meaning to forward the attached article to you.Last January the Nordic Ski Club (of which we are members) and friends volunteered to build housings (boxes) for small native animals affected by the devastating bushfires that had swept across NSW. Our focus was on helping antechinus and microbats in the Kosciuszko National Park and it seems our efforts from this project have shown some encouraging results. I believe this project was assisted by donations to NPWS by firefighters in Poland. As you can see from the attached article (from NPWS) there was also a direct benefit to NPWS staff who were able to continue working remotely throughout the COVID crisis. I do hope this email finds you and your family happy and healthy in what continues to be very challenging times. Regards Robyn and Rick Counsell
