Professor Christine Kinealy, Director of Ireland's Great Hunger Institute at Quinnipiac University, Connecticut, USA, author of dozens of books and the World’s leading authority about the Irish Famine, calls Pawel Edmund Strzelecki “My Hero”! She is appealing for Ireland and America to erect a monument to him.
Yes. 150 years after the death of this outstanding Pole, it is high time to bring back into living memory all his achievements. Not only did Strzelecki climb, identify and name Australia’s highest summit as Mt Kosciuszko; not only was he a trail blazing explorer and scientist. He was a Good Samaritan who saved over 220,000 children from starvation during the mid-Nineteenth Century Great Hunger in Ireland.
