The Sejm of the Republic of Poland has declared that 2023 will be the YEAR OF PAWEL EDMUND STRZELECKI. In Australia, a series of events is coordinated by Kosciuszko Heritage Inc (KHI. We at KHI are striving that knowledge about the magnificent achievements of this Outstanding Pole be brought back into living memory within Australian communities. Too much has been forgotten! Nowadays, Strzelecki is most commonly remembered only as the man who named Mt Kosciuszko. But what of his trail blazing explorations? What of his scientific discoveries? What of his great Humanitarian Deeds?(link do wersji polskiej)
Knowledge about this Good Samaritan who saved hundreds of thousands of children from starvation during the mid-19th Century Irish Hunger has for several years been growing in Ireland. Professor Christine Kinealy, Director of Ireland's Great Hunger Institute at Quinnipiac University, Connecticut, USA, author of dozens of books and the World’s leading authority about the Irish Famine, calls Pawel Edmund Strzelecki “My Hero”! She is appealing for Ireland and America to erect a monument to him.
Yes. 150 years after the death of this outstanding Pole, it is high time to bring back into living memory all his achievements. Not only did Strzelecki climb, identify and name Australia’s highest summit as Mt Kosciuszko; not only was he a trail blazing explorer and scientist. He was a Good Samaritan who saved over 220,000 children from starvation during the mid-Nineteenth Century Great Hunger in Ireland. Few people realize that at a time when they were widely and deplorably downtrodden, Strzelecki was a respectful ally and friend of indigenous peoples on different continents, including the Australian Aborigines.
Today's Australia would not be the same without its strong Catholic core. It was Strzelecki who was actively involved in organizing the emigration of the Irish from Britain to Australia - ship after ship, year after year ... personally greeting those who boarded and wishing them well at the time they departed the shores of their homeland.
A man of impeccable honor. A brilliant self-educated man with historically proven expertise in multiple fields. In his day a celebrated figure. Adviser to the most eminent politicians, bankers, admirals and British intellectuals. He was not only a man of Honor, but also of humor! A sociable, elegant gentleman, energetic, lively, witty, with an extraordinary repertoire of anecdotes. There are countless commendable features about Strzelecki. Let's give the Australian community the opportunity to learn the full truth about the most admirable Paweł Edmund.
In March 2023 KHI will announce details about "In the Spirit of Strzelecki" International Competition with 25 thousand Australian dollars to win. Please be alert and on the lookout.
