The Friends of Chopin Australia are a Polish-Australian organisation (estab. 2010) and members of organised Polonia. Our patron continues to be the Polish Ambassador to Australia, and we have strong links in Poland to various organisations including the National Institute of Fryderyk Chopin (NIFC). Our wide ranging activities include the Australian International Chopin Piano Competition, concerts, commissions of compositions, masterclasses, festivals, newsletters, special events, support for other music competitions such as the PolMusicA competition in Victoria, participation at Polish akademias and participation in the Polish Festival in Federation Square.
Our inaugural Australian Chopin Festival, 28 September-2 October 2023, Canberra and Goulburn, brings to far away Australia the concept of the Chopin festival so popular in Europe with its concerts, masterclasses and other activities, but so difficult for us to participate at. Our five day event, open to all, will include the world famous Chopin specialist, teacher and performer, pani Ewa Pob這cka (from the National Institute of Fryderyk Chopin in Warsaw) who will conduct three masterclasses for children, young adults and teachers and give two concerts.
A special event will feature a two-way live-streamed tour of the Chopin Museum in Warsaw with a guide and finishing with a concert on a piano of Chopin’s time, by the emerging Polish born Chopin specialist pani Aleksandra 安igut. This will be live streamed.
Masterclasses are a unique opportunity for our Polish musicians – children, youth and young adults— to learn from one of the great Chopin teachers of our time. Pani Pob這cka is a Polish icon who will pass on her considerable Chopin skills and experience as a teacher, juror and performer. A Masterclass is an opportunity for a young pianist to receive a lesson from a respected teacher, which is open to the public to observe. We are looking to give young Polish-Australian pianists an opportunity to receive a lesson from pani Pob這cka and we appeal for you to disseminate this as widely as possible within your community and elsewhere. Their participation will be free of charge.
We are hoping you will help us spread the word about our Festival, particularly to young Polish-Australian musicians who might wish to participate in a Masterclass.
