| WHEN Marek Walkowski turned up for work at his animal sanctuary in Poznan in western Poland last week he found a black and white mongrel chained to the gate.
Around its neck was a piece of string with a short note that read: “We are young unemployed Poles from a family in Debiec. We love our dog, but we can no longer survive here in Poland in the current economic climate. I hope you won’t judge us too harshly by the fact we are leaving our beloved pet here, but we are emigrating to Britain and can’t take her with us.”
