Pomnik P.E.Strzeleckiego w Jindabyne | Hey you guys (Poles and non-Poles), who will trek up to Mt Kosciuszko with Puls Polonii to pay tribute to a great man – General Thaddeus Kosciuszko! Everyone is asking, so here is the answer! On 17 February 2007, at 11am, the Polish cyber newspaper Puls Polonii is organizing a pre-premiere of music composed by General Kosciuszko at the very summit of his mountain!
Participants in the performance (musicians, singer/songwriters, dancers and actors) and organizers will meet at 6.40am at Charlotte Pass. Equipment, instruments and costumes will be taken up by trucks provided by Fairidge Pty Ltd. This Company, which has kindly offered its assistance, is currently building amazing new toilets tucked into a ridge at Rawsons Gap.
We will be marching with high spirits, taking rest stops along the way. At Rawsons Gap, Lajkonik will put on their folk costumes and we will move on to the summit, 1 ½ km further upward. There on a stone “parquet” stage, Lajkonik will dance, Sydney Windjammers will play two Polonaises and a Waltz composed by Kosciuszko to “the 4 points of the compass”, and John Hospodaryk will sing songs and ballads about Kosciuszko and the explorer, Sir Paul Edmund Strzelecki. Slawek Kazan will sing a new song “Lets not forget Strzelecki” to the music of Boleslaw Szulia (note that this is the school anthem of a Poznan Highschool in Poland!)
The whole performance will be filmed by PUMA FILM for, but not only for, Television Polonia.
Whilst a large crowd could be a bit problematic, if anyone would really like to witness this historical moment, of course, we cannot stop them!
On Sunday, 18th February, mass will be celebrated at 8.30am at Jindabyne Catholic Church, on the main road. All welcome.
And then ……..
…we meet again at Charlotte Pass for the Concert for Free-Dom at 11am. (Please note that Charlotte Pass is a 40minute drive from Jindabyne and that entry into Kosciuszko National Park costs $16 per vehicle).
The concert for Free-Dom is the National Premiere of Kosciuszko’s music. It will commence at 11am in the presence of a number of Australian politicians and invited guests, and the Australian Media.
!!!!Its important to have the Media present, because we want the Australian public to know and understand just how important a man Kosciuszko was, both to Australia and internationally. He worked for democracy. He played an important role in the American War of Independence, and stood for freedom of people everywhere, irrespective of race, colour or class. He fought hard for “the disadvantaged” in human society, for the abolition of slavery and freedom for all people.!!!
We want all Australians to know that in his last will and testament, Kosciuszko left his estate to be used for the liberation and education of black American slaves.
Australia is a country which has given a home to so many refugees and we can be proud that its highest mountain bears the name of such a respected man!
The Kosciuszko Project, as described above, is our contribution to paying tribute to the great man, General Kosciuszko, who believed in and fought so hard for freedom for everyone, and whose name was given (so appropriately) to the highest mountain of Australia. We want to bring attention to and celebrate the fact that Kosciuszko’s values are also Australian values – and how lucky we are to live in this beautiful country!
BUT TO DO THIS WE NEED SPONSORS!
The costs associated with this unique and historic event are significant. They are well beyond the means of any of the organizers (just ordinary people!), despite their best efforts to make it all voluntary, and keep costs to a minimum.
Every little bit of financial support will help – and lets just say that we are talking about the honour and pride of every Pole living in Australia in keeping the memory of Kosciuszko alive in Australia.
We are seeking support in the form of sponsorship - every $100 or $200 will help us make the event better, better-organised, and more memorable. We need assistance with the cost of printing programmes and posters, the preparation of CDs with Kosciuszko’s music for the Australian Media, CDs with the music and songs of the Windjammers, John Hospodaryk and Kazan. We need assistance with the cost of hiring the sound systems and carriers of the equipment from Rawson’s Gap up to the summit ……. The list of needs is considerably longer.
SPONSORS PLEASE COME FORWARD AND CONTACT ERNESTYNA ON (02)9617 1797.
