An Award Winning Experience

Hosts Phil and Ania invite you to experience the spectacular views, unique atmosphere, fully self-contained accommodation, Polish cuisine in their licensed restaurant, arts & crafts of Poland on Tamborine Mountain, in the Gold Coast Hinterland.

The Polish Place is also one of the wonderful sponsors of the Mound and Mount Festival!

About The Polish Place

The Polish Place was established in 1982 by Phil & Ania Sowter, under the name Polish Gallerie and Coffee Shop, as a small Polish cafe in a garden setting. 2004 saw The Polish Place celebrating its 21st birthday, and its achievements over the past 21 years.

Voted the "Brisbane's Best Weekend Getaway" by B105 FM Radio Station listeners in 2000, Beaudesert Tourism Award for Deluxe Accommodation in 2001, Beadesert Tourism Award for Best Restaurant/Cafe in 2002 (finalist in 2001), Finalist in the Beadesert Tourism Award for Getaway Accommodation in 2002, and HMAA Accommodation Industry Award for Excellence in the Villa category for QLD in 2002. In 2005, the Polish Place was a finalist in the Restaurant & Caterer's Association Awards for Excellence (European Restaurant).

The Polish Place is located on Tamborine Mountain in the Gold Coast Hinterland, 40 minutes drive from the Gold Coast and 1 hour from Brisbane. Uniquelly located on the western escarpment, The Polish Place boasts 180 degree views to the west, with stunning sunsets all year round.

Tamborine Mountain is a 550 metre high volcanic plateau with average daytime summer temperature of 30C (not humid) and 20C at night, with winter daytime temperatures reaching 20C and down to 2C during the evening. Perfect for enjoying the open wood-log fireplace and ambience in our restaurant and cottages!

This region is renowned for its hospitality, casual lifestyle and international flavour.

The famous "Gallery Walk", along with many individual galleries, cafes, restaurants, craft and antique shops and nurseries are spread throughout the Mountain, and are a browser's paradise only a few minutes drive from The Polish Place. There are nine (9) easily accessible National Parks, including the nearby Witches Falls and Joalah Park with its semi-rainforest trails. Activities such as golf, horse riding, hang gliding (100m from us), bowls, bushwalking, bird watching and creek swimming are popular activities. Cool, clean mountain air, rainforest walks and waterfalls, combined with its colourful bird life make this area a mecca for the nature lover.

Tamborine Mountain is well known for its markets. The Tamborine Mountain Markets are held every 2nd Sunday of the month, at the TM Showgrounds, less than 300m from our place.

Winery tours can be made to the 5 local wineries, boutique distillery and coffee plantation in the near vicinity. After a busy day there's nothing better than a relaxing massage in your cottage, or curl up in front of the fireplace (or in the spa) watching DVD's, as the sun goes down.

Restaurant and Bar

The Polish Place is situated on the western escarpment of Tamborine Mountain, and boasts one of the most idyllically located restaurants in the country. The large rambling garden is perched on the mountainside and shaded by giant gums, which are the playground for Rainbow Lorrikeets (birds). Guests can eat in the outdoor setting among the Lorikeets, who are most likely steal some cream of your cake! The new indoor restaurant (open September 2004) also boasts views and sunsets to the west, as well as a large open wood-log fireplace, and traditional Polish country decor.

Guests can enjoy the mouth-watering, traditional meals, which have been introduced by Ania from her homeland. Traditional Polish delicacies such as Pierogi, Bigos (Sauerkraut cooked with different meats and herbs), the very popular Pork Hocks, Cabbage Rolls, Smoked Salmon, Herring, and Salads are specialties of the House - not to forget Ania's famous Rum Chocolate Torte!

We also have specialty Polish dishes such as Duck with Granny Smith Apples & Morello Cherries, Baked Tasmanian Salmon with our own Lemon Sauce, and Pierogi with Porcini Mushrooms & Sauerkraut. Click on the link on the left to download our menu

Our Polish Bar features specialties such as many varieties of Polish Vodkas, Polish beers "Zywiec" (Gold Medal winner, World Beer Championships (1997), several varieties of "Okocim", Harnas and Goolman, as well as a large number of European and Australian beers. Our wine list also contains selected wines from local wineries and wines from around Australia and New Zealand. Why not enjoy a vodka (or two) on our deck as the sun goes down?

Our restaurant is open for sunset and evening dining every Friday and Saturday from 6pm (5pm in winter). For dinner reservations, please call us on (07) 5545 1603 or email us.
