10th Song of Songs Festival
Toruń 29 - 30 June 2007

It has been ten years since the Song of Songs Festival echoed for the first time within the walls of Toruń’s old town. The idea behind the Festival is to show the best in Christian music and in Christians themselves. The event is an international and ecumenical one, where various musical genres combine to express one message, and various denominations share a single desire: to be as one.

This year’s Song of Songs Festival will take place on 29 and 30 June. The tenth edition of the event is meant to be a ‘jubilee of jubilees.’ Like the Festival, most of the artists and bands to perform on stage will celebrate major or minor anniversaries of their own. As every year, Poland’s leading Christian performers will make their appearances: 2TM2,3, Armia, Tomek Kamiński, Mietek Szcześniak, TGD, Maleo Reggae Rockers, Full Power Spirit, Anastasis, and Porozumienie. International guests will include Voanerges from Ukraine and a megastar of the Christian scene: Argentina’s Rescate.

The Festival stage will be set within the magnificent Gothic town walls of Toruń. This mediaeval town made its notable contribution to religious tolerance with the Colloquium Charitativum, the ‘Fraternal Colloquium’ of 1645. At a time when the entire Western Europe descended into religious feud and violence, representatives of the Catholic Church and Protestant Churches convened in Toruń to seek consensus despite their differences. It is this tradition of tolerance and respect for other ways of thinking that the organizers and participants of the Song of Songs Festival invoke.

As in previous years, Channel 2 of the Polish national TV (TVP) has become the event’s media patron. The gala concert will be broadcast on nationwide TV, and live webcasts of all Festival events will be available on the Internet, courtesy of Civitas TV.

On the second day of the event, a mass will be held at the Toruń Cathedral for the organizers, artists and participants of Song of Songs 2007, featuring a performance of the Song of Songs Choir, made up of this year’s Festival artists. During the same evening, an ecumenical service will be held on the Festival stage with clergy representing various Christian Churches.

As previously, the organizers expect the Festival to attract a huge audience. According to unofficial estimates, approximately 20,000 fans of ‘music with a message’ may appear at the venue.
