On Saturday, 24 November, for the first time in Australian Polonian history, a Polish genealogy Workshop was conducted in Melbourne organized by the Polish Museum and Archives in Australia. The coordinators of this function were Helenka Evert (President) and Lucyna Artymiuk.
The workshop was aimed at individuals exploring their family histories and to provide a general framework for the searches and some encouragement for these individuals.
One of the speakers mentioned that some people begin their searches at a crisis point in their families, when an elderly parent passes away. They then realize that their direct link with the past is disappearing and that there are still many unanswered questions.
The development of family histories then becomes a mixtures of skill, serendity and detective work. However without having guidance, the search becomes a process of working in the dark. The Polish Museum and Archives was hoping to provide some assistance for those starting out on this journey. However there were people in attendance who were well advanced in the process.

Feedback from the attendees was extremely positive. The day was a huge success and it was agreed that the Polish Museum and Archives will be organizing more information session in the future. Links were made being individuals on the day. A wonderful sight was family members coming together to the workshop. Fathers and daughters, sibling, spouses.
People were given handouts and resources to assist them in developing their skills and knowledge.
We advise for people to keep their eyes open for future workshops and information sessions which will be announced in the new year.
People were also encouraged to join the Polish Australian Genealogy email group
