Lajkonik greeting New Year in a Hawaiian way
Daniel Gadd

Best wishes to Everyone for a Happy and Safe New Year! Its hard to believe that 2008 is already here – 2007 went by so fast. “Lajkonik” members, their families and guests brought in the New Year at the Smithfield Parish Hall. The hall was lit up by thousands of Christmas lights and decorated with palm trees, sea shells and bright pink and green napkins. Frangipani were scattered on each table, creating a wonderful fresh scent as guests entered the hall. There was even a small cabana…

The theme for the night was a colourful “Hawaiian Party”! This meant relaxed attire of Hawaiian shirts, shorts, grass skirts and of course thongs! It looked like we were all ready to go to the beach!

To complement the theme, “Lajkonik” members going to Rzeszow this year performed two Hawaiian dances: a slow item perfomed by the girls to the song ‘Blue Hawaii’ and an upbeat number performed by both guys and girls to the song ‘Drums of the island’. Both items were choreographed and taught by long standing member of Lajkonik Ania Fraczek – thank you Ania and congratulations on an excellent job! Ania was also assisted by Matthew Iglinski, who showed the guys’steps.

During the evening, the audience was invited to learn a bit of Hawaiian dancing and prizes were awarded for Hula Hoop and Limbo competition winners, as well as for the best dressed male & female of the night. All competitions were judged by the senior members.

We also had a large screen projecting the Sydney fireworks live via TV at midnight.

It was a colourful night and fun was had by all as guests danced into the new year to the sounds of the versatile duo “Toples”.

On behalf of the Lajkonik Rzeszow Project I would sincerely like to thank all the parents that helped out with the organising, set up and clean up, as well as the wonderful families and guests that came to support.

All the best for 2008!
Daniel Gadd
