One dead: Police allege the 16-year-old boy killed his father with a knife (ABC TV).A teenage boy is being questioned over the stabbing death of his father and the wounding of his mother in Sydney's north-west this morning.
It is alleged the 16-year-old attacked the pair with a knife at the family's home at Baulkham Hills. Emergency services arrived to find the 57-year-old man dead. The 50-year-old woman was taken to Westmead Hospital suffering from wounds to her stomach and neck. A kitchen knife, believed to be the weapon, was found in the house.
The New South Wales police media office has retracted an earlier statement which said that the wounded woman had died in hospital.Police say officers arrested the 16-year-old as he tried to leave the house.
Superintendent Sue Waites from Castle Hill police says the boy was in the front yard with his school bag when officers arrived. "He was being aggressive towards police so he was physically restrained and conveyed to the station," she said.
A woman, believed to be the mother, called 000 from inside the house on Bernadette Place about 7:00am (AEDT) and told them her husband had been stabbed. Police are doorknocking homes but neighbours say they did not hear a fight.
Superintendent Waites says they have never been called to the house before and there is no clear motive for the attack. A crime scene has been set up and detectives are continuing their investigation.
EDITOR'S NOTE: It was earlier reported that the stabbed woman was the boy's stepmother but the ABC has confirmed she is his biological mother.
