| My name is Jakub Kubica and I’m working for the Polish Television (TVP). It’s been a while since I started to think of making a documentary concerning Benedict XVI’s visit to Australia. We’d like to present the stories of Poles living there, the way they find (or can’t find) their place in the local community. We want to speak of your successes, but also of your failures, the difficulties you have and overcoming them; interactions (a “clash”?) between cultures and civilisations.
That’s why we’re looking for your stories. We’d like to know your motivations for going to Australia, extraordinary stories of your families and yourselves. Maybe someone fell in love with an Aboriginal woman and married her? Maybe someone has received a grace from God through the intercession of John Paul II and he or she is planning to go to the meeting with Benedict XVI in order to praise God for that? Maybe someone has cut all of his links with Poland? Why?
Generally speaking, we’re in the topic of deracination/assimilation, immigration, faith, tradition, identity facing a new culture and country.
We’re more than open to all of your stories. Simply, the more interesting, unusual, moving, sad or funny they are, the bigger chance there is for making this documentary. That’s why I’d like to ask you to be so kind and share your stories with me. I’m all ears! I have a fluent command of English, so you can write and speak to me both in English, and in Polish.
