Snowy Mountains resident, Bunty Bisharah, recently received the honor of being named Finalist by the Song of the Year songwriting contest in Houston (May 2008 edition). Song of the Year is an international songwriting contest supporting VH-1 Save the Music Foundation. Its judges are some of the biggest names in the music industry, including many Grammy Award winners.
“Song of the Year in Houston, is excited to recognize Bunty for her exceptional songwriting ability for the song “Earthly Angels”. Bunty competed against songwriters from all over the world for this honor. When asked what inspired the song, Bunty commented that after watching a TV program about the fighting in Iraq, she felt compelled to reach out to the world through her lyrics and music in the hope of inspiring people to look for ways to live in harmony - to all be accepting of each other, regardless of creed or color. “Having lived in Dubai and been captivated by the stillness and silence of the desert, it was easy for me to create these images” Bunty said.
Earthly Angels is my way of suggesting to the human race that it's about time we all learned to live together in harmony.
Earthly Angels
Christmas 007, is heavenly for some But what about those in Iraq, always on the run Looking at the desert stars, praying for an end To the futile killing which our heroes try to mend
Just imagine a place in the desert, where the hot sand touches the sky Nothing is impossible, if only we all try
Let’s hold hands together and pray to the stars above For kindness, peace and compassion, forming a bond of love We are, after all, only human, wanting the same thing Why does the scorpion’s tail have to use its sting?
Just imagine a place in the desert, where the hot sand touches the sky Nothing is impossible, if only we all try
The desert goes on forever, until it reaches the sky They merge into each other, or so it seems to the eye So why can’t we all do the same, and learn to live in peace And come to be accepting of the human race?
Bunty’s musical background Song and lyric writing is just one of Bunty’s talents. Australian born, she combines various artistic talents which flow into her lyrics and compositions. Bunty taught herself to play the piano by ear and memory. Spending her teen years listening to Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, and Bach, to name a few, she is still inspired by these master musicians today. She studied jazz piano under J. Green, a graduate of the famous Berklee Music School in Boston USA. Music is her God.
