Author of the Harry Potter series JK Rowling has weathered the current financial crisis, earning close to $A7 million a week in the last year.
According to Forbes magazine, Rowling is the world's best-paid author having made $US300 million ($A388 million) from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008.
Her income was more than that of the next nine bestselling authors combined.
Runner-up James Patterson earned $US50 million, while Stephen King came in at number three with $US45 million.
Rowling, 43, was a destitute single mother on welfare a decade ago. Now she has a fortune of more than $A1.2 billion.
The British mother-of-three has sold more than 375 million books and is now central to a multi-billion dollar film and marketing industry.
