TATRY in Adelaide’s Australia Day Parade
Paweł Zając

The Polish Folkloric Ensemble TATRY has been proudly taking part in Australia Day Parades since 2004, representing the Polish communities of South Australia.

This year, to celebrate this great day, 50 members of our ensemble gathered at Hindmarsh Square to take part in the Australia Day Parade, together with over 3,000 people from many multicultural backgrounds as well as Australian organisations. Members arrived at 8.00am at our home DomPolski Centre to dress in national costumes.

The atmosphere in anticipation of the parade’s commencement was one of excitement; a great sense of pride prevailed. The Lord Mayor of Adelaide, Mr. Michael Harbison, took time to greet our members, whom he had met on many previous occasions. the Lieutenant Governor of South Australia, Mr. Hieu Van Le, had a photo opportunity with us as well.

The Minister for Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs and Attorney General of South Australia, the Hon. Michael Atkinson MP, borrowed a Żywiec hat when having his photo taken with our members. A brisk, 30-minute walk to Elder Park on the banks of the River Torrens set the scene, where all participants and the public enjoyed a day of concerts, music, food and a fantastic opportunity to meet, greet friends and celebrate Australia Day.

On December 28 this year, PolArt 2009 will host Dożynki as part of the Polart Adelaide 2009 Festival on the banks of the River Torrens at Elder Park. The Festival will begin on December 27 and conclude on January 6, 2010, with performances being held in many venues around Adelaide.

The PolArt Festival will showcase Polish visual and performing arts from all over Australia and New Zealand to thousands of local, interstate and international visitors. With over 800 dancers and artists of many disciplines taking part, it will be a huge opportunity to showcase our Polish heritage to Australia and the world. We extend a very warm invitation to everyone to be part of this amazing festival.
