Google and Nasa launch school of the future
"when machines become cleverer than people"
Google and Nasa gathered their efforts to prepare scientists for an era when machines become cleverer than people supporting a new school for futurists in Silicon Valley. The head of the new institution “Singularity University” will be Ray Kurzweil, an American inventor, who predicted completed changes in technological development that made him controversial figure in technology circles.

Mr Kurzweil explained the fact of the university launching today, he said that’s because the moment of technological of radical changes is coming, not only electronics and computers but genetics as well. The term of so-called “singularity”, a theorised period of rapid technological progress in the near future, Mr Kurzweil published in his 2005 book “The Singularity is Near”.

The school is supported by Larry Page, Google co-founder, and Peter Diamandis, chief executive of X-Prize, an organisation which provides grants to support technological change. But despite its title, the school will not be an accredited university. Instead, it will be modeled on the International Space University in Strasbourg, France, the interdisciplinary, multi-cultural school that Mr Diamandis helped establish in 1987.

The Singularity University, that will be housed at Nasa’s Ames Research Center, will offer courses on biotechnology, nano-technology and artificial intelligence. Google and Nasa’s support demonstrates the growing mainstream accepting Mr Kurzweil’s views, which include a claim that

before the middle of this century artificial intelligence will excel human beings and that will be the start point of the new in era of civilization.

Proponents say that during the singularity, machines will be able to improve themselves using artificial intelligence and that smarter-than-human computers will solve problems including energy scarcity, climate change and hunger. However many critics claim the singularity dangerous. Some of them worry that artificial intelligence might lead to annihilate the human race if it‘s applied wrongly and unfair.
