Kujawy at the 2009 Eurofest Festival
Mirosława Żurawska

On Sunday September 20, 2009, the Kujawy Polish Song and Dance Ensemble performed at the annual Eurofest Festival, which was held at Ararat Reserve in Frenchs Forest. It was a beautiful, sunny day, and the atmosphere was very friendly. The official opening speeches were made by the Consul General of Germany and the Honourable Bronwyn Bishop.

There was a parade around noon and all the groups participating in this parade marched around the reserve and made their way to the main stage.

It was wonderful to see the Kujawy młodziez take part in the parade and the festival itself. When they walked passed, dressed in their beautiful costumes and smiling faces, you could clearly see their pride in their Polish heritage.

Kujway performed 4 dances in total. These were:
• Wrona – performed by the little group
• Zaloty – performed by the middle group
• Krakowjak – performed by the older group
• Sztajerek – performed by the older group.

There performances were spectacular and the crowd cheered them on each time and wanted more after the last dance was performed.

From many different nationalities across Europe, there were stalls where food venders plied their wares. There were performances of all kinds, from dance, to song, to artistic cycling from all different countries.

All in all, it was a rousing success and a memorable time was had by all. Kujawy’s next performance will be at the Oktoberfest Festival held in Fairfield.
