This year is the Year of the Priest. Catholic Parishes around the world are encouraged to especially celebrate their priests this year from June 19, 2009 to June 19, 2010.
Cabramatta Parish celebrated a dinner last Friday 9 October 2009 at Cabramatta Bowling Club.
The large culturally diverse congregation in attendance were all unified in their desire to honor and celebrate their parish priests.
Attending the function were two Polish Chaplains, Fr Jozef Kolodziej and Fr Krzysztof Chwalek.
Fr Krzysztof had arrived that morning from a well deserved holiday in Poland. Ks Jozef Kolodziej has also this year celebrated 50 years as a Priest. The attending Cabramatta priests together cut the “Year of the Priest Thank You Cake” with current Parish Priest Fr. Pat McCauliffe (in centre).
Each priest was also presented with a gift of a Diary beautifully personalised and gold embossed with the wording, Year of the Priest. A gift that will be useful to record their busy schedules.
A large contingent of Polish speaking parishioner’s also attended the function including members of the Polish Association and the Church Committee.
The Parish Committee arranged a wonderful night of entertainment including singing, dancing and joke telling. An impressive powerpoint presentation was shown of past and recent priests and it included a slide titled “12 Apostles” which showed a selection of past priests superimposed on a photo from The Twelve Apostles tourist attraction in Victoria.
The “Twelve Apostles” was a fitting description to the service of the priests in the Parish. The evening was a great success.
