Comment re The Weekend Australian, 9/01/10, page 22, TV programme for Channel Seven, "Kingdom", 7.30.
Dear sir. Your statement “A Polish concentration camp survivor seeks Peter’s help” is ambiguous and for the historically uninformed dangerous, as it implies that Poland built concentration camps. Poland could not have built concentration camps because Poland stopped to exist soon after the start of WWII. Poland was brutally overrun by Germany’s Nazis, and it was they, not Poles, who had numerous concentration camps in the occupied territories.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time that your otherwise well esteemed newspaper has referenced “Polish concentration camps”.
Needless to say that we are deeply hurt by such statements. If this is a simple journalistic shortcut, then it requires an explanation. We would appreciate you rectifying the damage by issuing an apology to your readers.
Yours sincerely Mark Burdajewicz AIPA Vice-President
