Consulate General of the Republic of Poland and the Chopin Committee of NSW cordially invite you to a free concert Chopin Classics and Rarities Performed by Young Masters, on Sunday May 2nd 2010 at 5 pm in the Verbruggen Hall, Sydney Conservatorium of Music. The concert will be performed by a number of young artists from Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Most of them have Polish ancestry, but they have mastered their talents under the expert guidance of Australian professors. The performers include: Gregory Kinda with a string quartet, Wojciech Wisniewski, Bella Jedrzejczak, Conrad Olsen, Sarah Wierzbicka, Tamara Anna Cislowska and Krzysztof Malek.
The program includes some of Chopin’s better known pieces and some rarely performed gems. Among the latter are: the sweepingly romantic Barcarole in F sharp major, Op. 60; the Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor, Op. 21 as it was originally composed and performed by Chopin – with a string quartet instead of an orchestra; the lyrical Berceuse Op. 57; three Impromptus (No. 1 in A-flat major, Op. 29; No. 2 in F-sharp major, Op. 36 and No. 3 in G-flat major, Op. 51) - shining presentations of extempore beauty, and three enigmatically entrancing Preludes (No. 20 in C minor, Op. 28; No. 6 in B minor, Op. 28 and No. 22 in G minor, Op. 28). Among the former are: the well-beloved ”Revolutionary Étude” No. 12 in C minor, Op. 10 and Polonaise in A-flat major, Op. 53, known as “Heroic”.
Another treat will be six of Chopin’s songs, some of them performed in English, some in the original Polish. A number of other Chopin’s masterpieces will also be performed during the concert.
The entry is FREE. Please come and bring your friends. There is no need to reserve tickets in advance, but if you want to ensure your admittance (in case the public’s interest exceeds the hall capacity), please e-mail us at marta.kiec-gubala@msz.gov.pl stating your name and the number of tickets requested, or call us on 9363 9816-18.
