We have received this message from David Keetley who had conducted "The Sydney Windjammers" band playing Kosciuszko Music on Mt Kosciuszko on February 17th 2007. As we remember it was the time when his late wife Cherie was battling with cancer.
As you may know Cherie was an avid supporter of Can Too. Their quest to raise money for cancer research combined with the training of participants in swimming and running was very dear to Cherie’s heart. The money raised goes directly to support young brilliant scientists with the desire that one day a breakthrough for a cure for cancer will be found. Cherie’s many speeches to the CanToo groups were an inspiration and even when on oxygen, in a wheelchair and feeling diabolical the speeches and the will to be at the finish line to cheer home the Cantooers were of paramount importance.
Cherie beat all the odds and redrew the survival graph for ovarian cancer. CanToo have set up a Cherie Keetley Foundation where each year a researcher will be awarded the Cherie Keetley Research Grant.
To help raise money for this cancer research I have registered to run in the Blackmores 9Km race finishing at the Opera House on 19th September. I am now training with CanToo to ensure that I make the finish line. I am the oldest member of the Cantoo team and yes it is a challenge but compared with the challenge that Cherie went through and that of finding a cure for cancer , mine is a mere stroll in the park.2
