Podhale Dozynki zabawa at Cabramatta
Text & Photos Henry Iglinski
The Podhale Folklore Ensemble held its first ‘Dozynki’ Zabawa at Cabramatta White Eagle Hall on 30-10-2010. The hall was appropriately decorated with straw and wheat sheaves. The function followed traditional activities, commencing with a procession to live accordion and song “Plon niesiemy plon”. The entire Ensemble walked into the hall with the bread basket at the lead, followed by the wieniec. The bread was offered to the “Gospodyni” of the White Eagle Hall, Krystyna Cyron, President of the Polish Association in Cabramatta and was blessed by Ks. Krzysztof Chwalek.

The “chodzony” was danced next with the eager participation of the attendees. This set the mood for a wonderful atmosphere of dancing to the live music & singing of ‘Merlin’ a popular band regularly playing for Podhale functions. The meal provided of cold meats, potato salad and vegetables was equally enjoyed as the coffee & delicious cakes served later. When it was time for the raffle to be drawn there were many happy winners.

The senior, middle and junior groups performed the following new dances:
Juniors: Lubelska Poleczka
Middle Group: Tance Warmii i Mazur
Senior Group: Tance Lasowiackie

One non Polish visitor said that she very much enjoyed coming to our functions because she felt welcome and enjoyed the warm, happy atmosphere.

If you would like to experience this for yourself, everyone is welcome to attend our End of Year Concert and luncheon on Sunday, 28 November, 2010 at 1.00 pm. Bring your children and grandchildren to meet Santa Claus and enjoy the performances.

Podhale will be continuing its busy programme with performances at Polish Christmas Darling Harbour on 5-12-10 at approximately 11.00 a.m. Judging by past experiences this year should be just as entertaining as usual with lots of dancing, singing, all kinds of stalls including beautiful Polish food. Not to mention bumping into many acquaintances we may not have seen for some time.

Podhale will also be performing with other Sydney Polish Dance Groups at Marayong on 12th December, 2010. A wonderful day is guaranteed.
