Christmas in the middle of summer - from the diary of a Polish expat
Magdalena Kopydłowska

Sweating in the afternoon heat of a summer day in Sydney I pass a huge Xmas tree at Martin Place and I wonder why you would bring this humungous tree in here. Only after few seconds it occurs to me – Christmas is looming.

Initially the idea of Xmas in these circumstances seems ridiculous. But there is more evidence…all shop windows hav.....  [Więcej]

A Welcome Wall project in Darling Harbour
Magdalena Kopydlowska

Australia, a melting pot of nations and traditions, is paying tribute to migrants. I vividly remember strolling for the first time through the colourful shops and bars, so full of life, in Sydney’s George Street. I had the impression of being in the midst of bustling streets in Hong Kong or some other Asian metropolis. When I was staying at a.....  [Więcej]

The Pauline Order of priests and brothers works to spread devotion to the Mother of God (under the title of the Black Madonna) and to her special prayer, the Rosary. Cosy on Kozzie
Dugald Jellie

Gales and gear malfunction enhance the bonding experience of a high-country trek by Dugald Jellie and his mates. A cold wind blows hard through the saddle. It slaps against the tent, whipping under the fly. My feet are frozen. Spring snow glistens outside under quicksilver moonlight. I toss and turn. Gusts lift the groundsheet. I hope the pegs on t.....  [Więcej]

“A Pole… is the worst, most detestable, basest, most hated and dishonest, stupidest, dirtiest, most false and cowardly creature among monkeys.”

Expurgating this perspective of a French solider released from the Polish army in 1780, as well as other misguided ideas about Europe and Poles, comprises the core of Norman Davies’ .....  [Więcej]
